While they do vary, statistics tell us that 40% to 50% of the first time marriages in this country end up in divorce. And the rates are even higher for 2nd and 3rd marriages.
So how can you avoid being one of these statistics?
Don’t stop dating just because you’re married.
This is not a hall pass to keep checking out the dating sites on the internet now that the honeymoon is over. Instead, this is about keeping your relationship in that honeymoon stage.
After all, a marriage license is not the same as a driver’s license. It doesn’t expire on your birthday with the option to renew. Marriage is, or at least should be, a lifelong commitment.
But love, like any emotion, can fade and change, and even go away if it’s not nurtured.
Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking now that they love you, you don’t have to keep working at the relationship.
Have a date night with your spouse at least once a month. Make it a fun and exciting date night, the way you did before you got married.
